The Hub
Santa Rosa Beach, Florida

The Hub is a festival-style gathering place featuring restaurants, entertainment and shopping along Walton County’s Highway 30A, appealing to families vacationing along the Gulf Coast beaches. The master plan for the 3-acre site developed collaboratively by Lew Oliver and DAG combines a variety of small retail spaces with larger restaurant spaces anchoring each corner of the development. An event lawn provides seating for outdoor concerts and movies, and the centrally located Pavilion features a multipurpose stage, a 25-foot wide outdoor movie screen, and a screened porch with a fireplace and big screen TV’s. The design is evocative of full-service drive-in theaters of the 1950s, minus the cars.
Among the tenants in the smaller 210 SF retail locations are the Vortex arcade and gaming center, Red’s Chicken Shack, Hughey’s General Store, Mr. Freeze ice cream, Crave Roadside Burgers, and Mile Marker Fifteen Tacos and Tequila. DAG has been responsible for the design and construction documents for each separate building, the central Pavilion, the West Pavilion, the prototype shell design for each structure type, and tenant fit-outs for many of the spaces.
The Hub is not only the commercial district for the surrounding 80-acre development with 149 single-family homes and more than 400 townhome units, but it has become an entertainment destination for the entire area.
