Sacred Heart Hospital on the Gulf
Port St. Joe, Florida

This community hospital is the first phase of a planned medical park in an underserved
area of Florida’s Gulf Coast
Located in the small coastal community of Port St. Joe, this hospital filled a need for medical services in Gulf County, a popular and fast-growing vacation spot. With its contemporary architectural palette of materials and forms, the building’s current aesthetic is appropriate for the cutting-edge services it offers. The hospital is a major inpatient and outpatient facility with a 25-bed nursing wing, surgical suite, radiological facilities, a 24-hour emergency department, diagnostics, a chapel, cafeteria, helipad, administrative and support services. A central energy plant services the facility and its future expansion planned to include an additional 25 patient rooms, outpatient clinical space, a nuclear medicine testing suite and expanded emergency, radiological and operatory areas.
A 25,000 SF medical office building, also designed by DAG, has already been built, with two additional 75,000 SF buildings planned. Since portions of the site are wetlands, sensitive remediation efforts were necessary to mitigate the site for development. The hospital is designed to withstand a Category 4 storm surge, coastal wind pressures, and meets Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) requirements.
